Horace “Paving” Potter was the most
feared and respected man in the whole town.
When people spoke to him they spoke
respectfully. When they spoke of him they spoke quietly.
Horace wasn't rich, or a criminal, or
even a politician. But he did know all of these.
You see, Paving Potter was just that,
a paver for the city that had laid nearly all the streets in town.
And once you knew that, you knew where
his power resided.
You see, he didn't know just what it
took lay every city street. He knew who was buried beneath them.
That's pretty grim and when you think about it, a paver is who to be if you want power.
ReplyDeleteVery nice play on a phrase! I quite enjoyed it! (and I didn't see the end comming till the second to last line!!)
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
A little book with a story of these per page would be awesome. They can even be these same ones, I'd go for it. Leave THAT in the bathroom instead of magazines, traumatize the poo out of someone.
ReplyDeleteThis is a compliment, this one and the last two have made me happy.
They're neat man, and I'm with D4. I think you should post more often, I like your short stories!
