Photos of Derelict Detroit.
Schools, Opera Houses, Libraries, Train Stations.
They were so lovely when new, you can still see it in the ruins.
Shiny, swanky, promising.
The fun people must have had there.
Now just broken plaster, trash and dust
But where others are irretrievably gone,
others hold promise of a return to what it once was.
I wonder which one I am.
That's brutal. It really depicts the current situation in Detroit. I really liked it, it really made me feel there.
ReplyDeletegood one. Almost all the interesting ancient places have the same story. Egypt, Greece?
ReplyDeleteYou look an awful lot like words, man.
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note, that ending really ties that feeling together fully, nice job.
I get depressed a lot, and have had similar thoughts. Just kind of..hopeless against the coming entropy..you know?
ReplyDeletei've read about detroit and their problems. Its wild man. Robocop really nailed it.
ReplyDeletehistories remains there even you can only see the ruins.
ReplyDeleteDetroit is like that? I thought it was pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteA portrait in my mind.
ReplyDeleteAbandoned buildings and "modern" ruins have always held a certain fascination for me. Our train station is currently undergoing renovation, and though I'm glad they're preserving it, I feel sad when I see the ugly glass/steel bus stand out in front. Hopefully they will retain the old ticket windows and wooden benches inside.
ReplyDeleteNice contradiction between the title and last sentence you made.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could be considered Swanky!!!

ReplyDeleteDeath of US automobile industry brought this, but it was inevitable.

ReplyDeletenice work. I like how you made that eulogy for Detroit into a deep, if not harsh jab at oneself.
