Self Portrait

Photos of Derelict Detroit.
Schools, Opera Houses, Libraries, Train Stations.
They were so lovely when new, you can still see it in the ruins.
Shiny, swanky, promising.
The fun people must have had there.
Now just broken plaster, trash and dust
But where others are irretrievably gone,
others hold promise of a return to what it once was.
I wonder which one I am.

  1. That's brutal. It really depicts the current situation in Detroit. I really liked it, it really made me feel there.

  3. You look an awful lot like words, man.

On a more serious note, that ending really ties that feeling together fully, nice job.

  8. Abandoned buildings and "modern" ruins have always held a certain fascination for me. Our train station is currently undergoing renovation, and though I'm glad they're preserving it, I feel sad when I see the ugly glass/steel bus stand out in front. Hopefully they will retain the old ticket windows and wooden benches inside.

  18. Very nice. This actually took me a while. I was waiting for images to load and thought it must be a problem with my computer. *Braindead*

I was reminded of the Eminem commercial at the super bowl.
